About WIlliam Stone

There is a reason why I love wedding photography. Wedding photography helps to raise the profile of humand and the beauty of love. It allows people to experience things they may not see themselves and therefore encourages them to care each other. We all know just how romantic and inspiring wedding photography can be. Still, most of us only make time for sunsets when we're on vacation as if that calming, beautiful moment can only occur when we're in an exotic place, free from everyday obligations--still, the sunsets every single day, no matter where you are. And with the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, the sunset is becoming more and more accessible, and a comfortable, free way to infuse some wonder and awe into your routine. Luxury prints of sunsets, just by looking at them can slow downtime and help you appreciate life's gifts. I have been to many countries across countless boundaries documenting weddings, where a sense of isolation has led me on an odyssey of personal growth. It was a valuable lesson in stillness amidst the noise of numerous shifting socio-political environment. I’ve been taking photographs my whole life; it’s my favourite way of recording. Most of the people there have a story to tell. Popping out of their shack, trailer, or truck, with invites to the local gun range and events; people I do come across seem to be okay with the comings and goings of everything around them, which appears to have either dried up or moved on, and won’t be back anytime soon.

I had always tried to capture the beauty of the wedding using advanced photography techniques like using shutter speed and how too low a shutter speed can result in blurry images due to your hand movement. Long-exposure photography is all about taking advantage of that blurry effect, making the main object appear sharper in comparison to other objects in the scene. You are going to need a tripod to make this work, as otherwise, your images will be blurry everywhere rather than just where you want them to be. The secret to long-exposure photography is to put your camera in either shutter-priority or manual mode, which will allow you to set how long the camera’s shutter is open for. This will be marked as “S,” “Tv,” or “T” mode on the mode dial if your camera has one. If you’re shooting using a smartphone, many recent models, such as the LG G4, also let you manually set the shutter speed via the camera app. Also when I travel, one of my favourite things is getting far away, to the middle of nowhere, and just looking up at the night sky. Away from the city lights, it is one of the most spectacular views available to us, and gazing up at it always helps me gain a sense of perspective. I want to try and capture it as a photo, which isn’t as hard as you might think and, apart from a tripod, doesn’t need a great deal of expensive equipment to achieve. But shooting star trails do require more thinking than just pointing your camera at the sky and hitting the “expose” button. To be noted too is our eyes have a much greater “dynamic range” than a camera has. Dynamic range is the difference between the darkest and lightest part of a scene that can be observed. Our eyes can resolve a much broader range in darkness and brightness than a camera can, this is where High Dynamic Range (HDR) comes into play, and I have taken some shots using HDR.

About William Stone's Photography

When I'm weddings at the end or middle of a trail, my surroundings are a hard thing to describe with just words. Often alone, I am confronted with vast natural beauty that is further enhanced by the intense euphoria of physical exertion pumping through your veins. Everything I see is magnificent. Everything feels so real, and yet, it’s completely incomprehensible. How could I possibly describe this hybrid combination of both views and feelings? It certainly isn’t something I can verbally relate to another person without them having experienced the same concoction of mother nature’s blood in their veins first hand. What’s worse, is when they haven’t. I try to communicate the fantastic reality of the world we live in and how transformative my experience was by documenting them on photographs. Even though you can’t feel what I felt at the exact moment I was capturing each of my images, it’s the closest you’ll ever get. Like a spell, my photographic art bestows a sense of wanderlust for the wilderness that I haven’t felt with wedding photography in quite a long while. With my style of tack sharp images that embrace the sober colours of the back-country, my work is true to life in an honest way possible.

I declare this world is so beautiful that I can hardly believe it exists. The beauty of the weddings can have a profound effect upon our senses, those gateways from the outer world to the inner, whether it results in disbelief in its very existence or feelings such as awe, wonder, or amazement. But what is it about weddings and the entities that make it up that cause us, often unwillingly, to feel or declare that they are beautiful? The simple perception of wedding forms is a delight. When we think of beauty in the weddings, we might most immediately think of things that dazzle the senses – the prominence of a mountain, the expanse of the sea, the unfolding of the life of a flower. Often it is merely the perception of these things itself, which gives us pleasure, and this emotional or affective response on our part seems to be crucial to our experience of beauty. So in a way, there is a correlate here to the intrinsic value of nature.

About William Stone's Photography Post Production

While I am a strong believer in the notion that execution of an artistic wedding photograph begins in the field and with the camera, it is undeniable that the final result depends a great deal on mastering the tools available to us in the digital darkroom. Indeed, this is where one begins to develop and refine their vision as an wedding photographer. As Ansel Adams said, "The negative is comparable to the composer's score and the print to its performance." As such, I do use Lightroom and Photoshop post-processing on some of my fine art lightly.

Camera Equipment

The most important aspect of my camera gear is to be able to travel as small and lightweight as possible while having the maximum image quality and resolution for producing sizeable fine art prints. For this reason, I use five different cameras for my shots.

  • A Sinar P camera, Large format with 3 different camera bodies. 4"x6", 5"x7" and 8"x10" and various lenses
  • A Mamiya Pro II, a medium format camera and various lenses
  • A Canon SLR Camera and lenses
  • A Nikon SLR Camera and lenses
  • Sony Alpha Mirrorless cameras and lenses.
  • I have a different camera bag for each of the various camera bodies and their corresponding lenses. Depending on the essence of what I want to capture and where I am going, will depend on which camera bag I will carry for the shoot.
